Lower Yourself

Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem

    1. Wa laqad khalaqnaakum summa sawwarnaakum summa qulnaa lilmalaaa'ikatis judoo li Aadama fa-sajadooo illaaa Ibleesa lam yakum minas saajideen
    2. Qaala maa mana'aka allaa tasjuda iz amartuka qaala ana khairum minhu khalaqtanee min naarinw wa khalaqtahoo min teen - (Quran Surah Al-A'raf, 7:11-12)

    11. Verily We created you and gave you form and shape, and ordered the angels to bow before Adam in homage; and they all bowed but Iblis who was not among those who bowed.
    12. "What prevented you" (said God), "from bowing (before Adam) at My bidding?" "I am better than him," said he. "You created me from fire, and him from clay." - (Quran Surah Al-A'raf, 7:11-12)

There is no planner better than Allah. His plans are the greatest and His plans are the only plans that pan out. I've thought often that if on that day, Iblis would've just bowed down, lowered himself, at Allah's command. One act of lowering himself would've prevented so much calamity. The calamity of generations and generations which will echo till the day of judgement.

Allah teaches us to submit ourselves. Submit to His will and His commands and His love. Only then will we be elevated.

Elevation is descried as the event of something being raised upward and we know Allah is the most elevated one. Allah is also Ar-Raafi (The elevator) and Al-'Alee (The Most High). He is not only the highest one, but also the only one who can elevate anyone.

Our history shows no better example of this than the miraculous journey of Miraj by our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He rose not only in ranks amongst men, but on that night, he was physically elevated to heights, all the way to the Arsh of Allah.

But this elevation did not come without the price. He had to lower himself. Khadija R.A. had passed away, and in the same year, his uncle Abu-Talib was taken away by Allah. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was devastated. (more on that, here) . It was a personal loss, which broke his heart.

Then it was the hurt that people of Mecca had been causing him and his followers. Then came the journey of Taif. The journey physically broke our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to the point that even the enemies of Islam wept (more on that, here)

Allah, Ar-Raqeeb, The Watchful, saw His beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) lowering himself, for the love of Allah. This was not ignored.

Allah decided to elevate him then, and elevated him above the seven skies, above all the other prophets and angels, above the point where not even Jibre-el (A.S) is allowed to go.

If you and I wish to go higher, learn to lower yourself.
